MVA with Fire

As crews were preparing for training on Tuesday Augest 4th, we were dispatched for a vehicle fire as the result of a vehicle crash on List Rd. in the township. Crews arrived to a car off the road, fully involved with the occupant out of the vehicle. EMS was added to the assignment as the operator of the vehicle was moderately injured. Crews worked quickly to contain the fire before any extension into the woods. Please, drive sensibly and obey the speed limit on the mountain roads.

My plans were to “stealth camp” at a local park, however I was told in no uncertain terms that this will not be possible. Rangers and law enforcement monitor and spot check the trails for this exact thing- even though I heard people have done it.

Fearing I wouldn’t have a place to spend the night, I looked up motels and none in the vicinity had any vacancies.

So I went to the local fire department. The folks at Lower Alsace Fire Company welcomed me with open arms. They fed me, allowed me to use their showers and had some amazing conversations about the Veteran Suicide and how big a problem it really is. Most of the guys were veterans too, so it was easy for them to understand the struggle.

Day two, after some grueling ascent, 2600ft of ascent (a lot of hike-the-bike) and a total of 43 miles, I found a home here.

I continue to be amazed at the hospitality, friendship and understanding of the community at large in this area.

Live Burn Training – July 19, 2026

Members of the Lower Alsace Fire Department participated in a live burn training exercise. The training provided firefighters with the opportunity to practice vital fireground operations in realistic conditions. Crews worked through essential skills including hose-line advancement, fire suppression, search operations, communication. Hands-on training like this helps ensure our members are prepared to respond safely, efficiently, and effectively when called upon to protect our community.
